Wellness Care

Veterinary wellness care is essential for maintaining your pet's overall health and happiness. Check-ups, vaccinations, and preventive treatments help detect potential health issues early on. The team here at Greenbush Veterinary Clinic is ready to provide compassionate care, tailored to the unique needs of your furry family member. You can trust us to keep your pet thriving and healthy for years to come!
Diagnostic testing gives veterinarians a more complete picture of your pet's overall health. Our diagnostic services here at Greenbush Veterinary Clinic include the following:

Digital X-Rays
At Greenbush Veterinary Clinic, we use digital technology rather than film when we take
X-rays. Digital technology allows us to adjust, magnify and improve our X-ray images so that we can see structures in better detail. Better quality X-rays help us better evaluate our patients. Digital technology is also safer for the environment and for our staff members.
Our staff is equipped to perform x-rays on any size pet, from a small kitten to a large Great Dane. With digital technology, we are able to take and process quality radiographs quickly, allowing Dr. Bailey to observe problems that may not be visible with just a physical exam.
Our digital X-rays may be electronically transmitted to radiology specialists for review when needed. We also offer x-rays for submission to the Orthopedic Foundation for Animals (OFA) for breeders interested in this service.

Surgery

The surgery room at Greenbush Veterinary Clinic is the most heavily equipped area in the hospital. A lot of hard work has gone into setting up our operating area so that your pet will receive top-notch care. There are patient monitors, warming blankets, fluid pumps, and anesthesia machines, not to mention the hundreds of surgical instruments. We use anesthesia logs to help us keep a close watch on our surgical patients.

Pre-surgical Checklist (for healthy cats and dogs):
-
Ask us for an estimate for your pet’s procedure if you have not already received one. Our estimates give you an idea of what procedures are to be done as well as their costs.
-
You will need to fill out an anesthesia/surgery consent form. We recommend bloodwork, an IV catheter and IV fluids for all procedures to make anesthesia as safe as possible. Our anesthesia form explains the importance of these items. If you have questions about your options, ask us to assist you.
-
It is best to do any lab work a few days prior to the procedure.
-
DO NOT FEED your dog or cat after midnight the night before surgery. Do not withhold water.
-
Patients are admitted to the hospital either the night before their procedure or between 7:15 a.m. and 7:30 a.m. on the day of surgery.
-
Please leave one or more telephone numbers where you can be reached on the day of surgery If there is a problem during or after the surgery, you will be contacted immediately.
-
Most patients will be discharged around 4 pm on the day of their surgery.
Why should I have my pet Spayed or Neutered?
-
Spayed or neutered pets live longer and healthier lives.
-
Behavioral problems such as aggression and inappropriate urination are more likely in pets that have not been spayed or neutered.
-
It is a responsible thing to do. Our shelters are filled with unwanted cats and dogs who can not find good homes.
-
The risk of serious cancer of the uterus, ovaries, testicles and breast tissue is reduced or eliminated by spaying or neutering your pet
-
Rabbits, Rats and other Exotic pets also benefit greatly from spaying or neutering
Dentistry

The dental area in Greenbush Veterinary Clinic is our battleground in the fight against one of the most common diseases of cats and dogs, gum disease. By 3 years of age 70% of cats and 80% of dogs have developed gum disease. Gum disease exists when bacteria and tartar accumulate on the teeth and cause the gums and tissues supporting the teeth to become red and painful. Gum disease is painful and causes bad breath and eventually leads to the loosening of the teeth. The bacteria that cause gum disease can enter the bloodstream and lead to problems in the heart, kidneys and elsewhere. Caring for your pet’s teeth at home and having professional cleanings keep the mouth healthy and give your pet a happier life.

A typical Dental Cleaning:
-
Our dentistry patients typically are admitted between 7:15 am and 7:30 am. Consent forms are completed, and your pet is given a comfortable place to stay. Our technicians and assistants will get any pre-anesthesia lab work underway. Prior to anesthesia, Dr. Bailey will perform a physical examination. This exam is done to be certain your pet is healthy prior to having the dental procedure. Following the exam, we may administer sedatives, pain relievers and other drugs that help your pet remain calm and comfortable before and after anesthesia.
-
Pulse oximeters, breathing monitors, anesthetic logs, and other equipment are used to assist our staff in their monitoring of the anesthesia. Anesthetic safety is a priority for all patients. Patients are covered with a blanket blowing warm air to maintain their body temperature. We use isoflurane gas anesthesia for all dental procedures. Dental cleanings are performed by our skilled staff and any abnormalities are assessed by Dr. Bailey. An ultrasonic dental scaling device is used to clean plaque and tartar from the exposed tooth surface as well as beneath the gum margins. The teeth are polished to slow the reoccurrence of tartar. A dental probe and pick are used to examine for any problem areas.
-
It is not unusual to find problem areas once the teeth are cleaned and assessed. In the case of advanced periodontal disease or other problems it may be necessary for Dr. Bailey to remove a diseased tooth. Please be certain to leave adequate contact information on your anesthesia consent form if you would like us to discuss our findings and recommendations. Following a dental cleaning, patients are closely monitored to ensure a smooth recovery. At discharge time, Dr. Bailey will meet with you to discuss the procedure and review instructions for care at home.
Boarding

We have an excellent team at Greenbush Veterinary Clinic who are caring and loving towards all of our special guests. We supply indoor boarding facilities for dogs and cats to help take care of your pet while you are away. Our kennel areas include indoor runs and cages. While here, your pet will be assured excellent quality care and lots of attention. As we have all indoor runs, we have an enclosed area outside for our canine friends to exercise and sniff around and do their "business". In addition, many clients love the convenience of having any necessary routine vaccinations, surgery, or dentistry performed while their pet stays with us. All of our guests receive lots of love and attention throughout each and every day.
Health and Cleanliness
Greenbush Veterinary Clinic will provide each pet with fresh bedding every day or as needed if it gets dirty. Dogs in runs will receive comfortable, raised cots to lay and sleep on. We feed Purina brand pet foods, as well as Prescription Diets for those with special needs. If your pet is on a special or prescription diet, please feel free to bring your own food, or if it is in stock, we can have you purchase a bag to be used during their stay. Fresh water is always available to all of our guests. We encourage you to bring a couple of toys, chews, or treats as well. These items will have your scent on them, but some toys get destroyed, so bring something you do not mind losing and bring SAFE toys and chews.

Vaccinations
In an effort to keep all of our visitors happy and healthy, we require that vaccinations be up to date. Dogs will need to have had a distemper/parvo combination shot, Bordetella (kennel cough) vaccine and rabies vaccine. Cats must have received a distemper combination (calicivirus, panleukopenia, and rhinotracheitis) vaccine and rabies vaccine.
