The one that sits at the desk (Lisa) was talking about GVC getting a website the other day so I asked her if I could be a part of it; I usually get left out of everything, never get a chance to tell my stories. I told ‘er I wanted a way to reach out and tell you hoomans about life here at the Vet Clinic. As queen bee, I see a lot and I know things, lots of things. People think I’m just lying around sleeping all day, you see, but I’m watching everything; I know what happens behind the scenes. Tonight, for instance, Dr. Bailey saw one of those inferior creatures they call a dog. Her name was Ruby and she’d been beaten up by an air conditioner duck out in her yard. Sounded to me like that duck made a clean get away, but not before it swiped at Ruby and sliced open her chest. I might of done the same as these pests, the dogs are bothersome to me. Anyway, Ruby needed help. Her parents knew what to do and brought her to my home, the clinic, for a visit.
Ever the rule follower, Dr. Bailey knew he could not wait until tomorrow, he had to stitch Ruby up tonight, during what he called the “golden period” so she wouldn’t get an infection. He called in help, and they did surgery. It looked to me like Ruby did well, though I heard they figgered out she was hosting a hookworm party inside of her guts. All those woorms partying in Ruby’s intestines are probably having lots of fun, but Ruby is gonna be the one who gets sick unless something is done. Yeah, the hookworms will have fun, ‘til something is done.
Hookworms are nasty blood sucking varmints, from what I hear. Of course, I’ve got no personal experience with them. Unlike other woorms, these guys have teeth to latch onto the walls of your guts and attach themselves so they can suck your blood, or Ruby’s blood in this case. I’ve seen a few puppies and kittens get transfusions because of bad infestations with hookworms; I’ve even donated blood to save anemic kitties. Thankfully Ruby still had plenty of blood . . . They checked for that before they gave her anesthesia.
Well, Ruby seems to have woken up now. They’re turning out the lights. A lot of the hoomans talk about me sleeping all day, but they just don’t realize I stay up late at night to supervise Dr. Bailey’s surgeries or other crazy things that happen here. Well, now it is time for me to go back to sleep.
